Residents at Channel Point Apartments (managed by Greystar) report that African-American tenants were instructed or pressured by property management and private security to use side and back entrances, while white residents and guests freely used the main lobby and front doors.

Ironically, the management’s official Instagram account — @channelpointapts — publicly features a photo of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., symbolizing unity and equality, even as African-American residents experience unequal treatment and humiliation in their daily lives.

Such conduct, if verified, represents a direct violation of:

  • The Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. § 3604), which prohibits discrimination based on race in housing access and conditions.
  • The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA, Gov. Code § 12955), which similarly forbids unequal treatment in rental housing and property management practices.

Residents are calling on Greystar and Channel Point management to:

  • Immediately end discriminatory access enforcement;
  • Retrain all staff and contractors in Fair Housing compliance;
  • Publicly acknowledge and correct the hypocrisy of using Dr. King’s image while violating his legacy.
