Residents at Channel Point Apartments (managed by Greystar) report that African-American tenants were instructed or pressured by property management and private security to use side and back entrances, while white residents and guests freely used the main lobby and front doors. Several tenants described this as a modern-day reenactment of segregation practices long outlawed under federal civil rights law.
Ironically, the management’s official Instagram account — @channelpointapts — publicly features a photo of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., symbolizing unity and equality, even as African-American residents report experiencing unequal treatment, humiliation, and restricted access in their daily lives.
If verified, such conduct represents a direct violation of multiple civil-rights protections, including:
• The Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. § 3604)
which prohibits discrimination based on race in housing access, use of common areas, and terms or conditions of tenancy.
• The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA, Gov. Code § 12955)
which forbids unequal treatment, discriminatory policies, and racially selective enforcement in rental housing.
In response, residents are calling on Greystar and Channel Point management to:
• Immediately end discriminatory access enforcement;
• Retrain all staff and contractors in Fair Housing compliance;
• Publicly acknowledge and correct the hypocrisy of promoting Dr. King’s image while violating the principles he died defending.

While some African-American residents did not object to using alternative entrances, others strongly rejected the practice. As one resident stated:
“Because of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. giving his life for the cause, I do not enter buildings through back doors or ride the back of buses.”
